Greek School - Classes Begin September 16
We are currently planning to kick off another wonderful year of children’s Greek school in September. Don’t miss this beautiful opportunity!

Our new teacher, Tessy Tzoytzoyrakos is a native Greek speaker with extensive teaching experience. Her gifts as a teacher combined with a strong theatre background create a relaxed and encouraging setting. Our children act out and learn Greek in a fun interactive environment, unseen in any most other programs. We are very privileged to have Tessy Tzoytzoyrakos as our Greek School teacher.

The classes for the 2009/2010 school year are:

  • Wednesdays:  4:00 - 5:30 for ages 4 - 6

  • Fridays:  4:30 - 6:00 for ages 6 - 9; 6:00 - 7:30 for ages 10 and up.

This schedule may change depending on the ages and levels of the students who enroll.

Registration fee is $35 and tuition is $395. To download a registration form, click here.

Our Greek School benefits from a large comfortable space within the church to best educate and equip the children. With continued efforts placed on conversation skills we also focus on vocabulary and grammar so that a complete understanding of the language occurs. We will continue to incorporate the Hellenic culture and traditions into the instruction.

Our Greek Language School began as an idea forged by a group of parents in south Orange County looking for ways to bring their children together with other local Greek children. For the past 5 years, more than 225 children have benefited from our Greek School.

THE CHOREOGRAPHER...”Creative”, “Imaginative”, “Refreshing”, “Inspiring”, “Moving”, are how both critics and audiences have described Mr. Basdakis’ choreographies. Dances performed to the great musical compositions of Theodorakis, Zambetas, Hadjidakis and others have awed, entertained, amused, and even shocked audiences with powerful and dramatic interpretations of instrumental music both contemporary and traditional. Mr. Basdakis is one of the first Greek folk dance directors to successfully combine award-winning costumes along with music, song and dance, all live and on stage.

TRAINING THE TRAINERS...Many of Mr. Basdakis’ dancers have become reknowned Greek Dance Directors in their own right, including what might be the most award-winning dance group in America—the OLYMPIAN DANCERS of Long Beach, California—his former group, now directed by his former dancer(s).

Our two Dance Groups “Methorios” which is comprised of our older dancers, and “Helidonia” a group made up of our younger dancers had a very successful weekend recently at the FDF Competition in Ontario, CA.

The Troup Members of “Methorios” and their director Vicky Hioureas worked very hard to bring the rich traditional dances of the village Asvestades to the competitive arena. Two individuals from the village were brought over who provided instrumental and vocal accompaniment. It was heartwarming to see them interact with our children wrapping their headpieces and singing and coaching them. We were honored to say the least. As a result of the dance group’s effort, “Methorios” was awarded the “FDF Board of Trustees Special Achievement Award.” This is the second time in two years that we have been awarded this special honor!

The Dance Group “Helidonia” did very well for their first year in competition. They performed dances from the region of Thrace. The younger Primary Division was very competitive this year and our dancers hung in
there with great enthusiasm and skill.

In addition to this, Vicky Hioureas, the Director of the older group, won the instrumental award for her skill in playing of a drum for other dance groups.

Both groups wore their first set of costumes which were not rented but owned by the Dance Groups. Parents and children alike had a wonderful time together experiencing the camaraderie and cultural heritage of the festival.
